A team of investigators
from Anna University
has asked St. Joseph’s
Engineering College, to
submit a report explaining
the suicide of a student at
the institution’s hostel on
Monday. Comprising Anna
University vice-chancellor
Dr Manohar Jawar,
registrar S. Shanmugham
and student affairs co-ordinator
S. Ganeshan, the
team, for about two hours
interacted with the college
management, including
director Babu Murughan,
and students of the college,
which is affiliated to the
university.
The team visited the hostel
room where the suicide
took place, and interviewed
day scholars at random
to get the students’ viewpoints
about the incident.
Members also questioned
nearly 50 hostel inmates,
who shared their dislike
about the strict discipline
meted out at the college.
