Despite the global economic slowdown and recession hitting campus placements in technical institutions across the country, more number of students opted to join various engineering colleges this year.
45,695 students have joined various branches in different engineering colleges across the state during the first phase of government’s single window counseling, which ended on Wednesday.
Last year 42,560 had joined various engineering colleges during the end of first phase of counseling and this year 3,135 more students have joined until Wednesday.
The state would soon start community colleges for dropouts and skilled labourers and the proposed colleges would be affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU). The counseling for general stream would be completed by August 10.
