The first ever counseling of the newly formed Indian Maritime University began at its Uthandi campus on the East Coast Road here on Wednesday.
A total of 6,700 students appeared for the common entrance test conducted by the University of which nearly 4,155 had got selected.
The University offered 1,098 seats in B.Sc., Nautical Science course and 325 seats in B.E., marine Engineering course.
The University is expected to add 100 more seats in the Nautical Science and 40 to 50 seats in its Marine Engineering courses very soon.
Apart from this, the University also offers B.Tech in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, MBA programme on International Transportation and Logistics Management are also on the anvil.
In order to obtain the students to obtain loans, two nationalized banks are participating at the counseling programme.
