DON’T INDULGE IN RAGGING STUDENTS TOLD

  • Hindustan University resolved to make its campuses ragging-free on Friday. Addressing an Anti-ragging Day hosted by the institution, to raise awareness of the consequences of indulging in ragging.

  • C. Sylendra Babu Inspector of Police-special Task Force explained to students that the Tamil Nadu prohibition of Ragging Act specified that any action leading to psychological harm, apprehension, fear, shame or embarrassment would amount to ragging.

  • Indulging in ragging directly or indirectly, abetment, participation or propagation was also an offence under the Act and involved imprisonment up to two years and a fine.

  • More seriously, if convicted for violation of section 4 of the Act, which also made the head of the institution culpable, if action was not initiated on a ragging complaint, would result in the person being debarred from admission to any educational institution in India, he said.
