BE seats still vacant

  • With just four days left for the government single window counselling for engineering colleges in the state to end, about 39,645 seats remain vacant. A total of 1,00,945 students were invited for the 1,09,443 seats until August 6.

  • As many as 70,179 students turned up for counselling of which 69,843 joined various colleges. An analysis of the TNEA this year reveals that 2,654 students did not attend counselling on August 5 alone.

  • A total of 334 candidates skipped the counselling by not joining any college. Around 30,766 engineering aspirants did not attend the counselling this year.

  • Less number of students (only 36.65 percent) opted for Information Technology this year due to global economic slowdown and recession.

  • About 5,658 students joined the course of which 3,373 girls. Electronics and communication engineering was the most sought after course with 75 percent students joining the course.

  • Mechanical engineering also attracted more number of students this year with 12,663 opting for the course.
