Anna University can have allied Science Courses

  • There is nothing wrong in the four Anna Universities in Tamil Nadu commencing allied science courses or permitting private engineering colleges affiliated to them to offer such courses, the Madras High Court has ruled.

  • Petition had sought bar on any arts and science programmes:

  • The Madras High court on Friday dismissed a petition seeking to forbear Anna University from conducting or affiliating any arts and science academic programme by itself or in its constituent colleges.

  • In his order, Justice said that the petitioner had not showed that the courses conducted by Anna University – Chennai , Coimbatore, and Tirunelveli and their affiliate colleges and institutes related to subjects falling outside the meaning of the definition of ‘allied sciences’.

  • Records showed that an expert committee had been constituted to submit a report on the representation from affiliated colleges for conducting B.Sc, and M.Sc, courses.

  • The panel concluded that the syllabi of A\all B.Sc., M.Sc., programmes offered by the engineering institutions, affiliated to Anna University – Coimbatore, had significant technology content to suit the present industry requirements and that they were set on a par with other technology programmes.
